Automation Controls Specialist – Job Description
Position Summary
The successful candidate will be an Electrical or Instrumentation journeyman or tech, or electrical or computer systems engineer with strong industrial or natural energy experience, with some supervisory experience as well. This person must have a continual focus on safety, cost control and client satisfaction when performing the duties of this position, as well as have a history of producing quality work with attention to detail in order to meet and exceed client needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Work independently on various software platforms including Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens, Wonderware, and various DCS and HMI platforms.
- On site commissioning and startup experience, as well as Engineering design experience in an EPC is also an asset.
- Understanding of all document sets, including Control Narratives, Shut Down keys, and SAMA drawings.
- Have worked through panel designs and retrofits working closely with vendors and panel manufacturers.
- Construction management and construction execution would be an asset.
- Supervision and operational experience also an asset
- Ensure work is carried out with proper safe work practices
- Work with Operations Manager to resolve issues with electrical installations
- Interpret and work from electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams
- Plan and schedule work ensuring proper distribution of tasks and material required to carry out the tasks assigned
- Co-ordinate work activities with other trades and subcontractors
- Track and report time and progress reporting requirements
- Track and complete As-Build drawings to be submitted for Project Turnover
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Journeyman, Technologist, or P. Eng. Electrician, Qualification is required
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience working as an Automation Professional in an industrial construction or natural energy environment
- Some previous supervisory experience
- Must have good knowledge of and ability to interpret the Canadian Electric Code
- Ability to read electrical schematics, diagrams, and blueprints
- Some computer knowledge with Microsoft Office 365 is helpful

- This position may require travel within Western Canada, and occasionally further abroad

- Must be able to climb ladders
- Must have a class 5 driver’s license, and a good driving record, with reliable transportation.
